Named after the pile of five boulders in the gap on the distant ridge that give the appearance of a friar in his Franciscan habit.

The extraordinary pillar of crystal, known loacally as Lot, may be the cause of the concealment of this view from the collection in circulation, owing to a possible phallic connotation. The pillar of salt has now been eroded away.
