Killed in action at Longido, Kenya
He volunteered for the private brigade of Bowker's Horse, which became recognised as part of the East African Mounted Rifles. He died trying to save a wounded soldier during the assault on the german-held Mount Longido. We did not win that battle, but it gave added incentive to drive the germans out of East Africa. |

Died in an air crash on takeoff from Frankfurt. A Sabena Convair CV-240 lost engine power due to fouled spark plugs. It was the third accident of this aircraft in less than a year. She had been on holiday with her sister in Bavaria and they died along with 38 other passengers and four crew. |
