He died on 8 Dec 1989 in Tewkesbury.

According to records in the Africana Library in Kimberley, he attended Christ Brothers' School, Kimberley, Northern Cape, South Africa.  Whilst there, he was Featherweight Boxing Champion and a member of the Under-16 Rugby Team.  He was also a member of Our Lady Solidarity.

He then attended Cape Town University.  Was General Manager of Kamativi Tin Mines near Dett, Zimbabwe.  In "retirement", he was chief adviser of mines to the government of Zimbabwe.  Unfortunately there was no recognition or respect for John's years of service to the country and he felt obliged to move his family to the safety of England.
